Festival Organizer

The Free Will Players Theatre Guild was formed in 1989 by a group of actors in a truly co-operative spirit with the mandate to produce the works of William Shakespeare. The company presents the Freewill Shakespeare Festival, which has grown into a professional theatre festival with an annual audience of thousands. We stage outdoor productions every summer.

The Free Will Players Theatre Guild is seeking an organized and proactive Festival Organizer to join our team for the 2026 Freewill Shakespeare Festival. This paid student position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and is open to applicants between the ages of 15 and 30, making it ideal for someone interested in event coordination, arts administration, and festival operations who is looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic live performance environment.



About the Role

The Festival Organizer supports the planning, coordination, and smooth operation of festival programming and community activities. Reporting to the Assistant Managing Director and working closely with the Production Publicist, this role plays a key part in delivering successful events and ensuring a positive experience for patrons, artists, and community partners.


This position is designed as a mentored learning opportunity, providing practical experience in event logistics, scheduling, inventory management, and on-site problem-solving. The Festival Organizer contributes directly to the festival’s public-facing success while developing strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.



Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage festival programming, including private events, community stage performances, and special receptions

  • Liaise with community members, partners, artists, and stakeholders to coordinate event requirements and ensure smooth execution

  • Support the operation of licensed areas and assist with oversight of concessions and merchandise sales

  • Maintain and update inventory records, order supplies, and ensure adequate stock levels

  • Anticipate and respond to site needs, including consumables, waste management, cleanliness, and overall festival readiness

  • Collaborate with Front of House, production staff, and volunteers to ensure smooth daily operations

  • Assist with administrative planning, including preparing event documentation, managing community stage sign-ups, and coordinating private bookings

  • Monitor event operations and troubleshoot issues in a fast-paced, live environment

  • Participate in daily safety briefings and assist with emergency preparedness and response procedures

  • Support festival strike, including cleanup, organization, and return of materials to storage

Contract Details

  • Start Date: May 25, 2026

  • End Date: July 17, 2026

  • Pay: $18 per hour

  • Hours: 35 hours/week

  • Eligibility: Must meet Canada Summer Jobs Requirements for Employment:

    • be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of their summer job

    • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and

    • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

      • this includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job
