The Free Will Players Theatre Guild was formed in 1989 by a group of actors in a truly co-operative spirit with the mandate to produce the works of William Shakespeare. The company presents the Freewill Shakespeare Festival, which has grown into a professional theatre festival with an annual audience of thousands. We stage outdoor productions every summer.

The Free Will Players Theatre Guild is seeking an experienced and highly organized Head of Audio to join our production leadership team for the 2026 Freewill Shakespeare Festival. This role is ideal for an audio professional with strong technical skills who is passionate about live performance, collaborative production processes, and mentoring emerging technicians in a festival setting.


About the Role

The Head of Audio oversees the planning, installation, operation, and execution of all audio requirements for festival productions. This department-lead position is responsible for implementing the Sound Designer’s artistic vision while managing audio personnel, equipment, and daily operations throughout the festival.


Working closely with the Production Manager, Sound Designer, and other department heads, the Head of Audio ensures that all audio elements are executed safely, efficiently, and consistently. This role combines leadership, organization, and problem-solving while fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment for assistants, interns, and volunteers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the installation, programming, operation, and strike of all audio equipment

  • Collaborate closely with the Sound Designer to realize the artistic intent of each production

  • Supervise, schedule, and mentor audio assistants, interns, and volunteers

  • Conduct pre-show system checks and maintain consistent audio quality during performances

  • Maintain audio equipment, including repairs, organization, and safe storage

  • Communicate technical needs, challenges, and solutions to the Production Manager

  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and emergency response procedures related to sound systems

Contract Details

  • Start Date: June 2, 2026

  • End Date: July 16, 2026

  • Compensation: $26.50 per hour

  • Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
