Board of Directors

During such uncertain times, The Free Will Players Board of Directors is looking to shake things up. We're looking for diverse, new voices wanting to make an impact on the annual Freewill Shakespeare Festival. If you have unique ideas for expanding our festival, outreach to new communities, or how to help keep the festival running in the future, we need you!

Help us support the beauty of live theatre while giving back to the community! The Free Will Players Guild is seek your help to build and strengthen our mandate: making Shakespeare accessible and affordable to the Edmonton community regardless of age, ability, education, or income. Times are changing and we want new faces on our team to help us move into a more diverse, inclusive, and enthusiastically accessible direction in the same way we bring modern interpretations of Shakespeare’s works to life.

What is the Board?

We know how scary the phrase “Board of Directors” can be, but we want to help you succeed and help make changes to the landscape of this festival.

The Free Will Players Theatre Guild is a non-profit organization, run by a small staff and our Board of Directors. This voluntary board supports our mission of creating professional, contemporary, innovative productions of the works of William Shakespeare that are accessible to all audiences (regardless of ad, ability, education, or income levels), while also developing new audiences and mentoring theatre professionals of the future.

The Board meets once a month, reviewing the current work of the staff, and planning for any additional fundraising or planning. There are additional committees that you are invited to join that would increase time commitment, but are focused on specific areas of support for the future of The Free Will Players Theatre Guild.

Within the Board, you could support the creation of policies, participate in organizing or planning of fundraisers, support outreach initiatives, participate in community advocacy, and be a champion for the work of Freewill. Your work, depending on your schedule and capacity, can be far-ranging and work for your capacities and interests.

We understand that there are some procedures at meetings that may be new to you. That is totally okay! We are happy to help support you through this process and provide instruction through the more formal aspects of the work so you can primarily help where you are most passionate.

What are we looking for?

While certain skills are always welcome, we are primarily seeking members who are enthusiastic, energetic, and simply looking to help out. Some areas of interest or experience could be EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion), HR (Human Resources), Fundraising, or Community Outreach.
